Current Projects

Learning in Open Source Software Development Projects

Online surveys and archival log data analysis of cross-cultural SourceForge projects to examine how developers acquire different kinds of technical and collaboration skills through their participation in those projects.

Development & Design of Cyber-infrastructure Systems

NSF-funded project with Charlotte Lee. We are examining user-developer interactions in GENI's four cyber-infrastructures (http://www.geni.net)

Dissertation project based on interviews, content analysis of listservs & wikis; examined how developers influence competition and the emergence of a dominant design among four cyber-infrastructures while those systems are still under development (http://www.geni.net).

Neural Correlates of Online Search Behavior & Information Scent

Early-stage lab experiment comparing fMRI, EEG and Emotiv sensor (http://www.emotiv.com) measures of user reactions to websites with high vs. low information scent. Goal is to identify neural correlates of online information search behavior. (PI: Dennis Galletta, PhD).

All about me

I study distributed IT development.

The 'E.' in my name stands for Eirini, which means peace in Greek. 'Ilana' means pine tree in Hebrew.
